A Review of APsense.com
Here's a quick review about APSense. APSense is a Free Business Social Network where people get paid to come together to share their business. It is a great place to network, advertise, and build your list. I’ve been a member of APSense for a while, and I've just recently been spending some time there to build it up.
At APSense.com, you are allowed to create a blog, show your favorite resources, and actually build an online presence. The cost of APSense.com is free, or you can upgrade and take advantage of more features. I recently upgraded to Partner and went from almost no one viewing my site to now have over 315 views in just a few days.
I put my APsense widget on my blogs and have been amazed at the results.
APSense.com includes a desktop marketing system called iChannel. Some text ad exchanges include desktop advertising in their arsenal of services. By subscribing to their iChannel, you can receive ads delivered to your desktop rather than to your email inbox. It’s a great way to read ads, you earn credits just like you do when you go to the text ad exchange or to your email. I just started my own iChannel, ultimatelistbuilding. I learned later that APsense is no longer offering support for the iChannel. So, it's just sitting there, waiting for me to figure it out!
I am hoping that my blog posts will update there. I will probably have to learn a little more about doing that. But learning new things is something that I enjoy. Sometimes I find myself in a little trouble, as in when I was trying to change some information in the header of my other blog Ultimate List Building Tips. I couldn’t quite get a header to change correctly, so I had to ask for help. That’s okay, because now I learned how to fix it. Never be afraid to try something and if you need help, ask for it.

What Is A List?
You've heard it SO many times...
Build your list. Are you building your list? Do you have a list? The money is in the list.
It's enough to drive you batty, especially if you're new and not sure exactly what a list is. Don't worry, you're not the only one who started out not knowing everything. Anyone who ever started anything had to learn something. So don't ever feel bad or inadequate because you don't know something.
A list is simply an address book of sorts of people who have given you permission on the Internet to contact them. Today's environment requires that you have obtained permission from other people on the Internet in order to send them commercial emails.
Years ago, people just sent advertising to others in bulk form and it didn't matter if they knew the person or not. Of course, that raised some objections on the part of people who were sent all the thousands of emails that flooded their inboxes. So they started to complain and laws were passed to stop the practice. Along came the CAN SPAM act of 2003.
I know that when I look at my inbox, it's hard to tell that anything has changed. I get SPAM all the time. But the fact is, there is a law and believe me... you DO NOT want to break that law. $11,000 fine per email. NOPE, not me. I am going to have opt-in subscriptions forms to make sure that anything I send is compliant.
So, my list consists of people who have agreed to let me send them information. They've agreed by giving me their name and email address in an opt-in form on a website, and I've included in my emails to them a way for them to withdraw their permission by unsubscribing or opting-out.
Hopefully that answers the question about what a list is. Next time, we'll talk about how to get started building a list, what tools you need and how you put it together.
